So I just found out about this trend in twitter #cut4bieber where the point is to cut yourself so the biebs would stop smoking weed or something stupid like that.

And SERIOUSLY people did it. Some people ACTUALLY cut themselves.

Anyway I don’t really give an eff about mainstream stuff but man this is so. Wow. WOW.

Anyway I’ll post some of the pictures that have been going around.

And apparently there is, with our very own Microsoft Word! Here is how you can make it work:

1. Open MS Word. The earliest version that started this compatibility with WordPress is 2007.
   

    

2. You first setup your account and test if you WordPress blog is accessible

   

    

3. A pop-up window will appear. Select New, then select WordPress

   

    

4. Type up the needed information. The key here is you need to locate where the xmlrpc.php file is. This is what MS Word will be calling to integrate with your blog.

   

    

5. Click next, and it should show this message. If an error occurs then you need to check your connectivity or the location of the xmlrpc.php file if it accessible.

   

    

6. You will now see your blog account registered.

   

    

7. Start typing your post in MS Word!

   

    

8. Hit Publish when done!

This thankfully puts me in a great position to migrate to a much better domain and host! Unfortunately GoDaddy has been too slow, clunky, and bloated for me and it’s highly commercialized approach doesn’t really help that much on giving that “customer satisfaction”. Hopefully the new host I get would be a different story.

And so off we go to do some research! Here is a link in a Reddit discussion on GoDaddy alternatives.

Initially I wanted to avail of local hosting and domains but unfortunately the local isn’t hasn’t gone up to the point of affordability, despite most of them being just re-sellers of hosting services. Oh well.

After a few more days of research I finally was able to decide on a new host, namely NearlyFreeSpeech.Net. Doesn’t really ring that much bells but apparently they do have a following in the hosting/domain market, and so on we go!

To summarize here are the steps that I did to transfer to my new hosting:

1. Verify timeline of account expiration (godaddy.com)
2. Make sure account is not set to “auto renew”
3. Make backups of current setup.
a. all posts
b. images
4. release domain (ogbinar.com)
5. initial transfer of domain (nearlyfreespeech.net)
6. sign up for new hosting.
7. install WordPress. There are of course some kinks in setting up WordPress in NearlyFreeSpeech and so I forward you to this link for guidance.

8. setup for sub folder structure
9. verify completion of domain transfer. configure domain to point to new name servers.
10. create alias for ogbinar.com and www.ogbinar.com for the new website
11. test wordpress connectivity.
12. blog!
13. one last – before you forget, delete all your products and data on your godaddy account!

In case you are not hosting a WordPress blog or you’re encountering some issues, I did find some guides on how to move from GoDaddy to NearlyFreeSpeech with much better details that can be seen here.

Now to prove my point, here are some computations that I did on the foreseeable savings because of this change:

GoDaddy Hosting Package: 3,500PHP Linux/shared + 500 .COM domain = 4,000PHP/year

NearlyFreeSpeech hosting package: approximately 600PHP Hosting (scalable based on usage) + 500 .COM domain = 1,000PHP/ year

Of course it’s highly possible that the costs would increase in case my blog becomes famous. HA!

Nah. I try keep things simple. So far I’m liking the new host, everything is pretty much straight forward and fast. Everything I was just able to do in less than half a day!

And so I always take time to get my hands on lots and lots of movies. With strict adherence to at least some standards of quality, of course.

Of course one that has been waiting for my consumption is the complete Harry Potter series.

I remember when I first heard about the books. Everyone was saying that it was for kids and all that. But I was hungry for something to read and I just got off from the Dragonlance series and I’ve run out of books that I could read (I didn’t know about Wheel of Time yet then or the other great fantasy novels, except for Tolkien maybe) and so I went ahead and bought the first book.

By the second week, I already got my hands on the rest of the books (which was only up to the 4th book around then) and had to wait the next few more years before I got to complete the novels.

And even now we have completed the whole movie series. Wow, I can feel it now. I probably need to buy matching popcorn and some lazy snacks for this. and Yes beer or some alcohol.

Oh yeah. Goods times, here we come!
